Hand-cut, hammered and etched for an unearthed quality, Elizabeth Knight’s jewellery feels as though you have been on an archaeological dig and have found a hidden relic. Jewellery designer, Elizabeth Thompson, a Philadelphia native, received her BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design majoring in jewellery with an emphasis on the craft of silversmithing. After graduating in 2006 Thompson moved to New York City. Eager to establish a creative workspace with a solid sense of community, Thompson opened up Flux Work Studio in 2008. Innovative and truly one of a kind, FluxWork Studio offered a communal workspace for jewellers to work independently side by side. Elizabeth Knight Jewellery was founded shortly after, named after the designer’s two grand mothers.

Elizabeth Knight Ground and Water Collection - The Clothes Maiden

Our favourite collection from the designer has to be ‘Ground and Water’. The collection features a unique ‘frog’ body ring and a few eye-catching necklaces, like this delicately handmade seahorse piece above. We can see why it didn’t take long for this line to become a full time commitment. The pieces challenge the idea of conventional beauty while maintaining the integrity of the natural form. Thompson continues the discussion between conventional beauty and natural forms as she delves deeper into the origins of her inspirations. Although Elizabeth loves to experiment with materials and techniques, there is a constant to each piece in her line, a forged handmade quality and a story, to each of their own.
