Matt & Nat - the clothes maiden

A strong desire to protect the environment is how Matt and Nat started back in 1995. Living by a simple moto to ‘live beautifully’ they have experimented with materials ever since to create a range of vegan bags inspired by the hues and textures of nature, while protecting it at the same time. “Being inspired by MAT(T)erial and NATure means exploring the synergy between the two, the reflection of one on the other”.

Their new season includes a range made from cork and uses 100% recycled plastic bottle linings. Other material experiments include nylon, cardboard, rubber and recycled bicycle tyres. Using these innovative materials means that Matt & Nat are able to incorporate the texture of nature into their creations, giving a three-dimensional design which plays on your touch as well as sight. The bags themselves come in four different lines: Vintage, Cork, Dwell and Loom, and feature a selection of day and evening bags all beautifully designed with a fine attention to detail.  Each line includes new design features, from contemporary openings, structured silhouettes, and bold shapes to neon shades, unisex options and unique corner shapes. Matt & Nat follow a principle of being simple and functional in all of their designs. A personal favourite at The Clothes Maiden are the  neon pieces which runs through the Dwell collection.

A beautiful backpack stands out with structured box shape,  hidden pockets and top zipper closure which is favoured for its bold colour, simple style and functionality. The Dwell collection uses vegan leather, a soft, textured and light material which is rich in colour. What began as a simple idea to do their part for the environment has turned into an exciting challenge for Matt & Nat to experiment and educate on the importance of looking after the world that surrounds us, they remind us that: “To ‘live beautifully’ means appreciating the humanity, creativity and positivity found in all of us”.
