Darlo organic cotton baby vests

New ethical babywear brand Darlo puts giving to disadvantaged children at the heart of their business, with each product sold in the UK providing a week’s worth of meals for a child in India. Chloe Hoole established Darlo in 2013 following a trip to India and South America, there she came up with the idea of manufacturing ethical babywear in India that gives real help to local children. Through a partnership with Mumbai-based orphanage Project Crayons, Darlo pledges to cover the cost of one child’s meals for an entire week, for every item of clothing sold in the UK.

It has been a steep learning curve for Chloe and her partner Jim, who had little textiles, design or manufacturing experience, but with funding from Startup Direct, founding partner of the Government’s Startup Loans scheme, they launched their online shop earlier this month and are stocked on notonthehighstreet.com in time for Christmas. Chloe said: “I was on a wooden canoe boat bobbing down the Amazon when the idea to start an ethical babywear brand came to me. I had always dreamt of starting a fashion retail business but once the idea had formed I found myself carried along by an overwhelming need to see it through to fruition.
