London based producer Tiiva is releasing their debut self-produced track ‘Make Me Pure’, beginning a trio of solo releases in the form of a mini-EP. Tiiva creates honest and expansive pop as a medium for deep exploration of humanity, particularly within the realm of storytelling, whether it be their own or someone else’s story. Sampling and curating an individual blend of woozy synths, basslines and intimate vocals, each track becomes a cathartic release, unfurling the imaginary world that Tiiva builds through their sound.

As a fledgling producer Tiiva has playfully chopped vocals, crafted drum patterns and Juno bass lines in various remixes (MX World, Lusts) to create the distinct sound that now permeates their solo material, similar to the electronic elements of James Blake combined with the emotive potency of FKA Twigs and striking vocals reminiscent of Cocteau Twins.

Written around a flurried night in central London, Tiiva describes ‘Make Me Pure’ as “a self-exploration of my own hedonism and how detaching became the easiest form of survival.” This detachment, they say, we often find in “the night time culture of darkened clubs, hazy bars and substance enhanced encounters.”

Mental health is a theme that is prevalent throughout Tiiva’s work, this track in particular focusing on not allowing the negative to define you, they describe how “just keeping afloat and staying sane when reality bites down can seem so difficult, keeping anxiety and sadness at bay can feel like the entire weight of the world is on your shoulders.”

It’s a cycle that anyone who has experienced bad times will be familiar with: “when you catch your own eye in a mirror late at night and see the raw truth in every mistake that you made, and yet refuse to deny yourself that something better is always on its way.” This tinge of hope is what makes Tiiva’s sound inherently human.
