minna parrika - the clothes maiden

Recently the Minna Parikka brand stole our hearts with the latest A/W’15 collection, Glazed & Confused. The Helsinki-based designer’s creations have graced the feet and physiques of adventurous women from around the globe, including the likes of Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Paloma Faith and even Beth Ditto. Fun and bold is Minna’s trademark – both as a woman, and a designer. Season after season, her creations win followers with their playful femininity, eccentricity and exquisite attention to craftsmanship.

Minna’s work has featured magazines from all over, such as Vogue, Numéro, Elle, Marie Claire, Grazia, Glamour, Collezioni, Tatler, Harper’s Bazaar, WAD and French and Sleek, to name but a few. She even has her very own first class postage stamp in Finland! The Glazed & Confused collection oozes attitude and a cool one at that. We see finger suggestions, sweet treats and even the odd pair of bunny ears making an appearance on some of the footwear.

Once Minna fell down that rabbit hole and chose the world of shoe design at the age of 15, she started chasing her dreams. The designer moved to England at 19 to pursue a degree in footwear design, spending the next six years living, working and finding inspiration in London, Milan and Barcelona. In 2005 she returned to her native Helsinki to launch the Minna Parikka brand.

Minna’s love of footwear is based on the fact that shoes – unlike clothes – don’t have to be inhabited by a body in order to look attractive. When they’re beautiful in their own right, and a then a woman steps into them – that’s when the magic happens. The right shoes can change how she looks, feels and is seen by others. As objects of desire for women and men, shoes aren’t just symbols of power.
