Recently hotly tipped South Londoner Love Ssega released his first new material of 2017 in the form of exceptional new offering ‘Out Here Looking’. The well-crafted burst of redefined pop fully showcases his versatile vocals and diverse musical influences; an eclectic taste honed through the perpetual exploration of his father’s collection of seminal LPs. Opening ‘Out Here Looking’ with the bold statement “True impact is what I want”, Love Ssega’s statement of intent is clearly stronger than ever as he delivers his trademark, impactful lyrics with a steely resolve while, sonically, complex production is matched with percussive beats & a polished bassline to produce an infectious groove.Discussing the concept behind the self-directed video, Ssega notes; “I directed the visuals with my Art Director Kat Hassan, who introduced me to Eduardo Paolozzi’s Pop Art work & illustrations at his Whitechapel Gallery retrospective which made all our creative conversations fall into place.” He goes on to explain “From a compositional and cinematographic perspective, I’ve always loved Wes Anderson, but not just for the colour palette, for his killer close crop portraits. I’m fascinated with emotional energy and we need some hope back. Humans are good at sensing truth through expression so I wanted to up the intensity of the video by making it black and white, isolating different parts of the face to focus on the energy of the lyrics, coming through every muscle and nerve. It’s like that performing live – if someone believes you, they’re more likely to listen.”
