Much like shiny red London buses, Mates of State take their time, but when they rock up they rock up en masse: nine years since they last played live in the UK the gently revered and long-time married Connecticut-based exuberant indie-synth-pop duo of Kori Gardner (vocals, organ, piano and occasional guitar) and Jason Hammel (vocals, drums, percussion and occasional synthesiser) are giving away a free track from the ‘Rumperbutts’ movie to tie in with their first UK live shows since 2006.

Mates of State band - the clothes maiden

‘Someone Like You’ is the usual matey Mates Of State blend of spectacularly sweethearted electronics and yearning melody, like half of ABBA tinkling around with trumpeting sound effects. The song is taken from the ‘Rumperbutts’ fantasy film which Mates Of State starred in earlier this year, and which joins a veritable outpouring of MOS-themed product in 2015, including the brand new ‘You’re Going To Make It’ EP, the ‘Greats’ compilation album and the digital reissue of their ‘Mountaintops’, ‘Re-Arrange Us’ and ‘Bring It Back’ albums, all on fierce panda records.
