The bold designs of Filip Von Polen’s are striking – it’s a rare thing to see designs that are bucolic and rustic in nature, but also contemporary and ready-to-wear at the same time. Taking inspiration from the countryside, the scarves feature an array of wildlife and foliage alike – but with a twist. Using digital layering and geometric techniques to almost a kaleidoscopic effect, these designs are unique but wearable.

Filip Nocko, the brains behind the brand, took inspiration from the people of Poland in his latest collection; the designs, as mentioned, feature the wildlife and nature of the Polish mountains, whereas the scarves themselves have been inspired by the traditional scarves as worn by the Podhale highlanders. The highlanders of the Podhale region in particular have a rich history of folklore and the arts, including a tradition of crafts and storytelling – providing an abundance of inspiration for his creations. Originating from Poland himself, in the city of Wroclaw, Nocko’s designs clearly have a great personal resonance and emotional attachment.

Since the brand, Filip Von Polen was launched only recently in 2013, the intricate designs have received much interest – and rightly so. Nocko’s impeccable attention to detail combined with a bold use of colour makes his collection stand out, and what could be seen as perhaps an uninteresting, rural theme has been made eye-catching and attractive in design. Worn around the neck, the print actually becomes quite abstract – particularly the tiled designs – but can really add life to an old outfit in need of accessories.

So what’s next for the brand? Since working in New York and London with the likes of Zac Posen, Jeremy Scott and Jean Charles de Castelbajac, Nocko is now based permanently in Paris working to cultivate Filip Von Polen into a big name in the industry.
