The problem with bags is they can be restrictive. You get into the routine of using the same bag day after day, and it makes your daily look rather repetitive. The solution to this is customising it: wearing it differently from one day to the next, or modifying it. However, even this can wear thing. What’s the solution to this dilemma? BeConvertible, a new range of convertible handbags, is currently being financed via the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, and could potentially provide the answer. It seeks to provide women with a unique means of expressing their personal sense of style.

The bags are assembled by hand and made of vegetable tanned Tuscan leather. They come with a range of different handles, ranging from antique Mongolian lace to Indian saris and English wallpaper prints, and are fitted with a system of internal buttons that makes them easily customisable.

This new range champions old-fashioned production methods, and each bag requires over three weeks of craftsmanship. The leather is tanned by hand using a closely guarded technique that takes up to six hours and is supposedly handed down from generation to generation. The process is environmentally friendly, using natural tannins sourced from local trees.

Are these bags the solution to the problem of wearing the same old bag in the same old way day after day? Maybe, maybe not. They look great on the Kickstarter page, but that’s not to say they will look great when in actual use. Only time will tell.
