Habits can be extremely difficult to break, especially if they are a part of your daily routine. However, sometimes your everyday behaviour can be negatively impacting your body without you realising. Over time, these habits can cause sustained injuries that are difficult to treat. By reversing these habits now, you may be able to prevent this from happening.

Here, Commando Camp shares five everyday habits that are giving you sustained injuries.

1. Bad Posture

Sitting or standing with your shoulders forwards can actually cause curvature of the spine, leaving you with a hunched over stature. Not only will this alter your physical appearance, but it also puts excess pressure on your bones, causing chronic back or neck ache.

2. Crossing your Legs

Whilst sitting at your desk, it may feel comfortable to place one leg over the other. However, this can lead to strain on your hip joints. Your glute muscles get tighter over time and eventually compress against your hip bones, causing pain.

3. Footwear Choices

Frequently wearing high heels can lead to back pain as the arch of the heel offers little support to the foot when walking, causing the overuse of your back muscles.

4. Sitting for Prolonged Periods of Time

Sitting down puts strain on the disks in your lower back, which help to keep you upright. This can cause tension that builds up, resulting in aches and pains. Try incorporating a daily walk into your routine or simply remember to stretch your legs throughout the day.

5. Sleeping Position

Sleeping on your stomach has been linked to chronic back pain as the position puts pressure on your muscles and joints. Ensure you have a suitable mattress and sleep in a neutral position, either on your side or back, to avoid injury.
