You’re a surfer, you’re at the beach at yet you look at your board and it’s in some sort of silver nylon padded ‘thing’, and more importantly it doesn’t go with your actual bag. Well husband and wife team at Chapman at Sea have finally given what the beach generation is looking for, and a whole new meaning of sport luxe.

The idea began when Tasha, artist and craftsperson, inherited a WW11 army bag from her grandfather. This thing had travelled the world, been in a war, and had even defied all bags by getting better with use. Combining this design, the fact that there were no appealing board bags in their area, and Joe’s marine experience, they made a hard going but good looking surfboard bag.

One thing led to another and here they are, with Tasha also creating smaller beach bags with the same designs. All of the artwork on the bags is simple, neutral, nautical or tribal, and all made from traditional and hard materials such as washed cotton canvas, leather, suede and burlap.

They began making the bags on their dining room table in Delray Beach, FL, but at the start of 2014 they moved to Boca Raton, FL to begin on their journey, in a small studio, of Chapman at Sea.

Everything is made by hand so care, time, and effort is put into each and every bag. Their personal love for the beach and surfing has mixed with their desire for their bags to be as unbelievably strong as the WW11 bag, making a collection that not only enhances youthful style, but provides practicality without compromise. Who would have known that a WW11 bag could give so much inspiration?
