Sex and the city first landed its way onto the small screen in 1998, loosely based on the book by Candace Bushnell it followed the lives of the main character Carrie Bradshaw and her friends trials and tribulations. When it did hit the small screen, Carrie Bradshaw, a charismatic journalist and sex columnist and her three close friends, women’s fashion started to take on a very interesting role in the media.

All of a sudden the viewers knew of designers such as Jimmy Choo and Manolo Blahnik, and although not everyone had the budget for such beautiful designs they certainly had admiration and knowledge. But who was the stylist behind the story? None other than the quirky red haired designer and stylist Patricia Field. Patricia Field, a New York designer has worked on countless TV series and films and really is a genius of design. Clashing prints, over the top designs and colour blocking, it is apparent why Field was chosen for the Sex and the City series.

Everyone that has watched the series will be able to recount the famous Pink tutu Carrie wears in the opening credits, the oversized flower pin or the bubblegum pink dress with the studded belt. It was these fashion choices some may call risks that pulled the series together. Of course, we all loved the drama, will Carrie and Mister Big ever get their happy ending? However, ultimately it was the styling that had us all hooked. Patricia Field has also styled for TV shows such as Ugly Betty and big hit films Confessions of a Shopaholic and the Devil wears Prada.
