New research reveals that the ‘Tiffany’ engagement ring style is the most popular in the UK.

Research by the experts in customised jewellery Glamira.co.uk analysed Google Trends data on 10 different engagement ring styles to reveal which ones are the most popular in the UK. Each style of engagement ring was suffixed with the search term “engagement ring”, such as “Art Deco engagement ring”, to reveal the most popular.

The 10 engagement ring styles that were analysed are as follows; Solitaire,

Halo, Three Stone (Trilogy), Pavé, Bezel, Tension, Channel, Art Deco, Tiffany, and Cluster.

In first place, the most popular engagement ring style is the ‘Tiffany’ style. In 1886, ‘Tiffany & Co.’ developed a specific six-pronged setting for a stone to maximise the light return, and it also features a plain band. There are similar settings that you can get at other jewellery stores but this specific ring type has been trademarked by the company. Actress Mila Kunis has this type of engagement ring, a simple yet striking five-carat diamond ring, given to her in 2014 by her now-husband Ashton Kutcher.

‘Halo’ engagement rings are in second place. The Halo style of engagement ring features a stone with an assortment of other stones surrounding it in a concentric circle. This arrangement makes the stone in the middle seem larger, and it increases the sparkle factor of the ring. Some celebrities that wear a Halo style ring include Cardi B and Emma Roberts.

In third place is the ‘Art Deco’ style engagement ring. Art Deco engagement rings refer to vintage rings from the 1920s and 1930s. Usually bold, geometric, and intricately built, these rings have plenty of character but may sometimes require more cleaning and maintenance due to intricate designs and crevices. Celebrities that have worn this type of ring include Catherine Zeta-Jones and Katy Perry.

In fourth place is the ‘Solitaire’ style engagement ring. The Solitaire style engagement ring is the most traditional engagement ring style and features just one stone in the design. Simple and elegant, the stone is often mounted with prongs. One of the celebrities that wears this kind of ring is Hailey Bieber, given to her by now-husband Justin Bieber.

Finally, in fifth place is the ‘Three Stone’ style ring. The three-stone setting is an engagement ring style that features three stones closely set together which are said by some to symbolise a couple’s past, present and future. Often the middle stone is the largest and is flanked by two smaller side stones of equal size. Celebrities that wear this type of ring include Kat Dennings and Meghan Markle.

A spokesperson for Glamira.co.uk commented on the findings: “Engagement rings symbolise commitment to a beloved partner and therefore it is vital that the ring encapsulates the person and the love you have for one another.”

“Looking for that perfect ring can be a challenge, and trends for them are ever-changing.”

“However, the process doesn’t have to be overwhelming by following these tips. Firstly, ensure you have a budget – this allows the jeweller to narrow down the choice of ring to suit you. Have the previous discussion with your partner on traditional (diamonds) or non-traditional rings (faceted stones). Thirdly, know the colour you will choose for the band – this can be done by going for the same colour jewellery your partner typically wears every day.”

“Going into the process with these factors in mind will ease the decision-making process and ensure a smooth appointment.”

Tiffany

In 1886, ‘Tiffany & Co.’ developed a specific six-pronged setting for a stone to maximise the light return, and it also features a plain band. There are similar settings that you can get at other jewellery stores but this specific ring type has been trademarked by the company.

Three Stone

The three-stone setting is an engagement ring style that features three stones closely set together which are said by some to symbolise a couple’s past, present and future. Often the middle stone is the largest and is flanked by two smaller side stones of equal size.

Halo

The Halo style of engagement ring features a stone with an assortment of other stones surrounding it in a concentric circle. This arrangement makes the stone in the middle seem larger, and it increases the sparkle factor of the ring.

Art Deco

Art Deco engagement rings refer to vintage rings from the 1920s and 1930s. Usually bold, geometric, and intricately built, these rings have plenty of character but may sometimes require more cleaning and maintenance due to intricate designs and crevices.

Bezel

With the Bezel style engagement ring, it has the stone held with a thin custom rim that is custom-made to hold the stone tightly in place. With Bezels the setting is more durable than it would be with a setting that uses prongs; excellent for active lifestyles.

Channel

The Channel style is a way of setting smaller stones in a row in the band of the ring; without prongs, making a metal channel of stones.

Cluster

The Cluster style of engagement ring ‘clusters’ smaller stones tightly together so that they look like a large stone. This ring option usually provides a lower cost option than buying a ring with a large center stone.

Pavé

The Pavé style of engagement ring gets its name from the French word meaning ‘to pave’ and as such has closely set small diamonds, held in place with tiny metal prongs.

Solitaire

The Solitaire style engagement ring is the most traditional engagement ring style and features just one stone in the design. Simple and elegant, the stone is often mounted with prongs.

Tension

For a Tension style engagement ring opposing directions of pressure are used to hold a stone so that it appears to be suspended in place, often creating the illusion that the stone is almost floating in mid-air. As the stone is usually highly seated this style can give off a magnificent sparkle.
