With the holiday season upon us, it’s time to dust off the suitcase and dig out the summer wear. When you are on the go, it can be tricky to know how to style your hair without overpacking so knowing the best travel hacks will mean you can look and feel your best at all times.

From heatless hairstyles to protection from the sun, hair specialists at Vera Clinic have collated a list of hair travel hacks to try out when you are packing.

Limit your tool space

When packing for a trip, often space is a luxury and we can’t bring along all of our usual bits and pieces. Consider the look you are going for and minimise the amount you bring with you so you can reuse the same items for every look. For example, a hair straightener can also be used to create curls so you don’t need to bring two electronics if you’re really low on space. There are also many cordless heat styling tools available on the market that are great for styling your hair on the go and have a compact design.

Heatless hair hacks

When you’re on the go, the last thing you want to do is spend ages getting ready every morning before you head out to explore. Before you go, decide on some heat-free looks which you can try out and practice in advance to master the styles. Often people find themselves wanting their hair out of their face when active or in the heat so a half-up, half-down style will be a welcome addition.

Stock up on dry shampoo

As you change up your routine and live a more busy lifestyle, your hair can feel the effects and appear greasier much quicker. Instead of having to find time to wash it, keep a small can of dry shampoo handy to give your hair a speedy refresh as and when it’s in need. As well as freshening up greasy looking hair, dry shampoo is great for adding volume if you feel like your style is looking a little lifeless.

Utilise the accessories

Create an effortless style that looks like you spent hours getting ready without having to waste valuable holiday time! Bring along simple hair accessories like hair clips, statement headbands or hats which you can use to transform a look but don’t require much luggage space which you simply don’t have.

Minimise washing

The more you wash your hair, the more damage you could actually be doing. Frequent washing will strip the hair of its natural oils and can lead to dry and brittle hair which breaks much easier than it should. Avoid washing your hair daily and instead, aim to wait two to three days in between washes.

Keep up with haircare

Taking good care of your hair will encourage hair growth and health so don’t sacrifice your luscious locks when you’re travelling. Good quality shampoo and conditioner as well as occasional extras such as oils, serums and hair masks will provide your hair with the nourishment they need so find travel sized products to pop into your luggage.

Protect from the elements

Especially during summer holidays, your hair is exposed to direct sunlight, salt water and chlorine which can have a detrimental impact on its health. This lifestyle can lead to dry and brittle hair so giving your hair that little bit of extra TLC will keep it in great condition. Wearing a hat in the sun, using oils and washing chlorine/ salt water out of your hair are all great habits to get into.
