Forward-thinking Danish electro-soul artist FJER, the moniker of New York- based Maja Barløse, returns with new single ‘Better’With a sound that calls to mind SIA and Banks laced with an upbeat, almost anthemic vibe, the singer/songwriter/producer’s raw emotional overtones mirror the introspective life reflections common to us all: both inclusive and yet isolated. Produced by the Danish duo Nector, ‘Better’ is an infectious alt R&B-flecked electronica pop gem that slides effortlessly between bassy beats and spacey lulls, showcasing FJER shimmering vocals to perfection. FJER explains how ‘the song itself was in limbo for years until Nector boys breathed new life into it’. Having received support throughout the year from BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, The Fader, Stereogum, and Pigeons And Planes for work with the Danish Scandi-pop sensation Kill J, The duo’s production of ‘Better’ further displays their commitment to creating a captivating sound and gives FJER the platform she deserves.

Speaking more about the origins of ‘Better’ FJER explains how her approach to the track was ‘like opening a time capsule to the past’, and explores the nuances of relationships changing over time. ‘I discovered that someone I was in an on/off relationship with hadn’t changed one bit. There seemed to be this notion that we were just gonna pick things up were we left off – so it was written to remind them of how much ‘better’ we could’ve had it, had they chosen me.’ Accompanying the single is the trippy and glitch-flavored video which sees a shower soaked FJER reflecting on past experiences, knowing that the subject is now looking back and doubting his choices. FJER’s artistic vision is undeniable in this co-directed video with NYC’s Peter Anthony Red. With plans to return in 2017 with her debut album on indie label QUINTIC, we can only anticipate what is next for the Danish powerhouse.
