When the snow is falling and it’s cold outside, it’s important to stay warm and snug, but that doesn’t mean dressing in frumpy knits or unflattering styles. There are many ways to look and feel good during a skiing adventure and here are five fashion tips to ensure you stand out from the crowd.

1. Rock the backcountry look

The days of oversized, misshapen outerwear are long gone and with an array of beautifully crafted over garments readily available from top ski brands, there’s no reason to look like you’ve been abandoned during a pine forest camping trip. These styles are so on trend they can even be worn around town when you get back home, so you really get the most out of your money.

2. Opt for bright colours

Wherever you look this ski season, you’re sure to find an array of bright and cheerful colours. Not only do these contrast wonderfully against the sparkling white snow, but they’re also bang on trend for 2015/2016 with bright pink glacier suits, lime green salopettes and animal print accessories considered all the rage. Embroidered florals are also popular, but if you’re not one for extreme designs then try blocking colours – a pair of plain but bright pink trousers paired with a simple black women’s Superdry jacket (with complimentary pink trim) will do the trick.

3. Don a bobble hat

What would a skiing holiday be without a bobble hat? This skiing staple is a must-have garment – whether you’re taking on a black run or unwinding in a nearby mountainside bar – and should take pride of place in your suitcase. Hats of this kind can be picked up easily online or in a ski store, but if you want something that no one else has got, try following a knitting pattern and making your own. Experiment with different colours and you’ll be ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at you – which is hopefully lots of snow!

4. Pick up a warm onesie

Believe it or not, onesies are not just for watching TV or bumbling around at home. They’re also ideal for hitting the slopes and while ski suit all-in-ones will give you the flexibility and freedom you need for winding down steep pistes and trying your hand at après ski activities such as sledging, tobogganing or ice skating, those made from soft wool are more suited for relaxing in front of the fire or heading out to a local bar with friends.

5. Wrap up in a gilet

If you’re a seasoned skier you’ll know that the polo neck and gilet combo is a win-win combination, ideal for both indoor and outdoor settings. These two garments can be teamed with everything from jeans and black leather salopettes to skirts and leggings and will instantly give your wardrobe some added style. There are many gilets on the market but opt for a design featuring faux fur and you’ll be onto a winner.
