SUMMARY:London Remixed Festival 2017
DESCRIPTION:London is a powerhouse of musical innovation and the London Remixed Festival brings you the finest selection for 2017. Showcasing the best in Latin Grooves\, Afrobeats\, Tropical Bass\, Vintage- Remix\, Balkan Beats and Acoustic Soundclash\, they are kicking Global London into the future! The festival is a celebration of the best emerging musical talent\, but without the mud\, rain or hassle of camping; expect performances from over 25 cutting edge band and DJs across four stages and two days all in one vibrant venue nestled in the heart of Shoreditch. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nThis year’s headliners include a DJ set from the creators of Beating Heart; an ongoing charity organisation set up by Hugh Tracy\, who made 35\,000 field recordings across Sub-Saharan Africa between the 1920’s and 1970’s; his intention was to reveal the beauty and complexity of this music to a world that saw little value in it. Beating Heart has connected the International Library of African Music (ILAM) archive with contemporary producers including Rudimental & My Nu Leng\, making fresh sounds for a modern audience. Building from Tracey’s vision\, the income generated from the project will be used to assist people in the areas where the music originally came from. Project co- founders and DJs Olly Wood and Chris Pedley will be spinning the originals alongside the fresh re- mixes plus a load of other funky tunes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor 2017 London Remixed Festival are bringing a brand new Remix Fair event in partnership with Community Music. The free event includes Remix Workshops with established guest producers and Community Music Tutors in a professional recording studio\, Panel Discussions and a Mini Trade Fair.

SUMMARY:Gerry Judah 'Fragile Lands' Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:From Baghdad to Bengal\, St Paul’s Cathedral to the Imperial War Museum\, the importance of Gerry Judah’s artwork should not be underestimated. Visually forceful and sensitively crafted\, Judah’s poetic works engage with pressing geopolitical issues of conflict and climate change\, while remaining deeply personal. Following the success of Fragile Lands last year the much acclaimed exhibition is now reinstated in an exciting new exhibition context bringing together unseen works by Judah alongside a rare collection of the artist’s three-dimensional paintings and captivating sculptural series Bengal. During his illustrious career\, Judah has exhibited internationally in spaces ranging from the Saatchi Gallery to the British High Commission in Delhi. His striking Great War memorial installation is currently on display in the nave at St Paul’s Cathedral\, London.  \n \nTwice commissioned by the Imperial War Museum\, Judah artfully documents destruction by creating artworks that both viscerally engage with the stark realities of war and evoke the ephemeral traces of traumas left in its wake. Judah’s ‘dystopian maquettes’ are made with the inevitability that they will be destroyed. With acrylic gesso on canvas\, glue and foam board\, the artist meticulously composes architectural representations of sites that have become metonymic of past and present conflict\, before physically smashing them\, leaving behind an abstract detritus of ruined buildings. Through re-appropriating media images of war-torn cities\, from Beirut to Baghdad\, Judah’s works self-consciously disrupts and complicates the apathy and voyeurism that too often comprise our response to destruction. They make physically present the ‘landscapes of loss’ with which we have become disturbingly familiar. The shattered fragments and spikes that form his painterly work make palpable the personal\, whilst lending emotive weight to the collective narratives deeply embedded in the canvas. As Judah suggests\, ‘It is the duty of culture to reach further than just the walls it sits on. It mustn’t be parochial\, but rather stretch beyond items of war.’  \n \nJudah has previously worked in film\, television and theatre\, creating settings for the BBC\, Royal Shakespeare Company\, Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney amongst many others. His spatial sensibility can still be felt in the dramatic\, emotive and physical scale of his recent artworks\, which operate on a captivating boundary between painting\, architecture and sculpture. In his recent Bengal series\, Judah turns his attention to the slow devastation wrought by climate change in India\, the country in which he was born and grew up. As in his earlier works\, Judah’s engrossing visual spectacles encourage viewers to engage with the complex\, the almost unapproachable; the histories of growth and loss\, tradition and modernisation that are layered in the country.  In his exquisitely detailed sculptures\, the structures of temples\, electricity pylons and religious artefacts are precariously balanced on rickshaws\, a mode of transport that has come to symbolise India’s ingenuity and urban dynamism. Constructed in part from coal and ash\, they performatively enact the environmental burden of human industry\, while also representing communities’ inherently creative capacity to recycle\, pull together and move forward. ‘These intricate\, fragile and colourful works reflect the beauty of India amongst its degradation’ Jane Morrow\, Curator Wolverhampton Art Gallery). This innovative and thought-provoking exhibition is certainly not one to miss.

SUMMARY:Dead Dolls House Does Cinco De Mayo
DESCRIPTION:At Dead Dolls House Islington\, they love a party\, and what better excuse for Thursday night fun than a celebration of the country that gave us tequila\, mariachi\, tacos and (get the cocktail shaker ready) #MARGARITAS!? The Fifth of May is to Mexico what St Patrick’s Day is to Ireland: a date that’s associated the world over with a particular country and its culture. So\, they’re ordering in handmade piñatas\, a mariachi band\, a frozen margarita machine and some damn funky DJs. As well as their usual range of delicious food and drink\, their bartenders’ll be serving up a fat range of tequilas\, mescals and bespoke Mexican cocktails all night long\, the main bar will be open until 4am. \n \nTucked away in one of their hand-illustrated private rooms they’ll be hiding an exclusive tasting room\, where an industry expert will be offering rare Mexican spirits for both the connoisseur or the fan of the tequila slammer. Entrance is free. Fancy dress is optional\, but encouraged. Come swing at a piñata\, bang a few margaritas and dance until your legs feel funny. There’s a Frozen Margarita on us for everyone who quotes “AGAVE” when booking. ¡Hasta la fiesta!
