Having a positive impact on the environment through everyday actions is an aim held by 2 out of 3 consumers. 1 in 10 millennials place making a significant environmental difference among their top 3 priorities in life.

However, longer shower sessions are most popular amongst the younger age demographics, with those aged 18-24 most likely to spend more than 20 minutes behind the shower curtain With this in mind, the international haircare experts at All Things Hair have put together the below tips for washing your hair less;

1) Swap Your Shampoo For a Deep Cleansing Shampoo

If suffering with greasy hair. the first thing you should try is swapping your regular shampoo for a deep cleansing one, like TRESemmé Cleanse & Replenish Deep Cleansing Shampoo which remove product and oil build-up on a deeper level. If the problem persists then try alternating with Toni&Guy Cleanse & Nourish Shampoo For Advanced Detox which can help to remove heavy product build-up, as well as dirt and grease, leaving your hair looking and feeling squeaky clean.

2) Are You Washing Your Hair Correctly?

So, what’s the most effective technique to use? The answer actually lies in brushing or combing your hair before you wash. Dry-brushing distributes any existing oil on the scalp further down the hair and helps to remove any product build up which can lead to oily hair.  When washing your hair, use a soft massaging motion as scrubbing your scalp can overstimulate oil production. As always, only apply the conditioner only to the ends of your hair and comb through with your fingers, finishing off your washing routine with water as cool as you can handle to close the hair follicle. Finally, understand if the running water in your home is hard or soft. Hard water has a high content of minerals, like calcium and magnesium, which leave a film, leading to build-up so you’re more likely to need to invest in a deep cleansing shampoo as per the above.

3) Dry Your Hair With A T-shirt

Dry ends = upping the leave in conditioner and hair serum only adding to your greasy roots? We’ve all been there. Try drying your hair with a cotton T-shirt as wet hair strands are more fragile, and rubbing them with a rough towel causes minor traumas to your hair.  Instead, gently blot your hair dry with an old tshirt which is softer on the hair and its cotton texture makes it perfect for absorbing water. It also has the additional benefit of taming frizz which means your less likely to reach for the serum.

4) Make Sea Salt Spray Your Styling Product Of Choice

As mentioned above, product buildup can add to product buildup which can not only make hair look greasier but also get greasier quicker. Sea salt sprays can be a great antidote if you already use products such as mousse and or gel as part of your hair styling routine which will add some movement to limp or lifeless strands as greasy hair often has this rep. The Toni&Guy Sea Salt Texturising Spray has a matte finish and helps combat grease and fake the look of freshly-washed tresses.

5) Apply Dry Shampoo Before You Go To Sleep

Prevention is better than the cure right? We recommend applying dry shampoo before you go to bed can prevent and stop oil buildup in its tracks. Applying this product before you go to bed can prevent greasy hair. The VO5 Refresh Me Quick Dry Shampoo, really helps to absorb any excess oil and residue that’s been produced overnight – pretty neat, right?
