The Gin Pennies newest gem entitled, The Gin Pennies is a smorgasbord of colourful yet heartfelt stories. Fronted by Shanelle Lewis their pop-laden-gypsy songs create a unique and gorgeous sound throughout the record.

The 12-song debut sees The Gin Pennies collaborating with Randy Wooten of The Bloody Lovelies and Willodean fame, who was able to team up Lewis with The Bastards Of Belleville, a collective of LA gypsy jazz musicians who appear as guests on the album. Standout tracks from the album include the stunning first single, “Film Noir,” and focus track “Hypnotized,” that showcases Lewis’ talent as both a songwriter and a performer. With inspirations of the past flowing into the future, The Gin Pennies create a sound that is both accessible and unique.

The record as a whole showcases delicate instrumental interplay and allowing Lewis’ serviceable voice to complement rather than dominate the song. The overall instrumentation on the record just feels amazing, as it breathes life into each amazing piece. It’s evident that The Gin Pennies are talented and brimming with ideas—and there are moments on this record that mark some of the best music out today.
