Ashley Isham found inspiration for his Spring/ Summer 2015 collection in the legendary and exotic Mata Hari. Inspired artistically by Asian and Egyptian style and performance, Mata Hari brought an exotic element to dance and fashion that was revolutionary for European performance. It is this excitement that has drawn Ashley Isham’s eye back to the turn of the 20th Century.

Discovering fame in 1905 in Paris, Mata Hari would soon become world famous finding her name amongst the greats of contemporary dance. She was a member of the Frisian minority, and for most Europeans a Dutch East Indian woman who was influenced so heavily by the mysterious was a marvel. She pushed the boundary between entertainment and performance, and opened up the art of exotic dancing to a more respectful status. From the legendary to the literary and the dramatic to the unusual, these specially crafted pieces are packed with romance that has inspired the S/S15 collection’s use of luxuriously rich yet vibrant hues.

The collection is delicately hand crafted and hand draped while being juxtaposed with razor sharp tailoring that is soft and sophisticated for a feminine silhouette. Ashley Isham’s S/S’15 collection is smart yet urban and celebrates its craftsmanship with clean, crisp and modern silhouettes that have been hand draped to ensure strength in style and fit. Tailored capes accompanied by razor sharp, strong shoulders were made to contrast the soft sinuous draped jersey to help shape a special silhouette.
