Interview: Christin Lohmann from Ugly Perfection

Please tell us a bit about yourself Christin?
My name is Christin Lohmann, I´m the artist behind “Ugly Perfection“. I was born in Unna in 1987, Germany, and now I live in Bielefeld. At Fachhochschule Bielefeld I’m studying Fashion and Illustration. Also I work as freelance Illustrator.

What inspired you to begin your artistic career?
My passion for Art and Fashion began in my childhood. I developed a passion for fashion, design and physicality. For me it was obvious to make an artistic career. Also, I was encouraged by my family a lot, especially by my older sister who is a Graphic Designer.

What do you do when you’re not using your creative brain?
That’s a pretty difficult question. When the job is at the same time the hobby you are searching for inspiration all the time, so you never really stop working. To come down I usually go jogging in the woods, where everything is peaceful and quiet. Apart from that I travel a lot or meet my friends at the regular haunt. I also enjoy to watching criminal or history documentaries

Do you have any favourite artists out there?
I love Frida Kahlo and her work. She was her time ahead. Her pictures are full of emotionality, additionaly I admire her courage to make something provoking.

Who’s your personal style icon and why?
I admire women like Madonna, Vivienne Westwood or Beth Ditto. Women with great personality and extraordinary charisma.

Do you have a favourite piece of artwork?
I really love the fashion designers; Walter van Beirendonck and Rei Kawakubo.

Any exciting projects in the pipeline?
I’m currently working towards my Masters degrees at Fachhochschule Bielefeld. At the moment I’m also writing and painting for my first Graphic Novel. A Science Fiction Story which takes place in a different reality. It tells the Story of a girl who is living in a world without feelings and no individuality.
