Diabetes is a growing concern among a large part of the population across the globe; blame it on the unhealthy lifestyle, living habits or even genetics, diabetes can lead to a total imbalance in your life. Getting accustomed to the demands of a diabetic life can often be frustrating, with so many friends and family flocking around and peppering you with too many DO’s and DONT’s. Don’t get confused with too many inputs; a diabetic diet is not drastically different from a normal person’s diet; it’s just healthier! The major concern with diabetes is that it increases a person’s chances of developing heart diseases and sometime the person can also go blind.

Once diagnosed with this lifestyle disorder, you will need to make certain changes depending on the type of Diabetes. Yes, Diabetes has two kinds; Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes.  On an average, around five percent are diagnosed with Type 1 while the most of the cases are of Type 2 diabetes. In some rare cases Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes can occur in the same person. The common causes of diabetes are genetics and unhealthy eating habits. Doctors believe that diseases of the pancreas such as cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis and even Hepatitis C can increase the chances of diabetes. Endocrine ailments such as Cushing’s syndrome can also lead to diabetes. In certain other cases diabetes can also be drug induced.

Healthy Eating For Your Well-Being

Since diabetes alone is not fatal, but it can lead to many fatal conditions, you need to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle. Including lots of vegetables and fruits, reducing the carb intake and exercising can bring your diabetes under control and enhance your health. Being diabetic does not completely prevent you from relishing on some your favourites. For example people with diabetes do not have to give up carbs entirely; they can include brown rice and whole wheat. Sugar substitutes and fruit sugar can appease your sweet tooth.  You can have some fun Saturday nights; one small drink a week is ok. And as long as you have a control over the portion and order sensibly, you can enjoy the restaurant food also. The only thing that cannot be compromised however is your daily workout. Exercising along with a healthy diet helps keep diabetes at bay and ensures your well-being.
