If you’re stuck in a style rut, you’ll be pleased to know that 2016’s summer trends are going to give you a much-needed shake up! Break free from your tried and tested (and perhaps tired?) routine by trying out these six summer looks.

1. A Silky Slip Dress

If spring/summer 2016 catwalks are anything to go by, anyone who’s anyone will be wearing silk slip dresses. Silk slips are traditionally worn as glamorous pieces of nightwear or beneath dresses of yesteryear (think of a luxurious lace petticoat), but 2016 will see this trend become fairly mainstream. It’s a sexy look, with silk slips sporting spaghetti straps, see-through chiffon and scalloped lace, so incorporate it into your everyday wardrobe by toughening it up with a casual jacket, flat shoes and rough-and-ready hair.

2. A Cold Shoulder

2016 is all about revealing unexpected areas of skin, so reveal your shoulders in vibrant shoulder-less shirt dresses, structured halter necks and cut-out tops. The best bit about this trend is that it’s sexy without being too try-hard, and also means your shoulders will benefit from a beautiful sun-kissed glow all summer long (so long as you remember to slather on the sun cream!).

3. Boyfriend Jeans & T-Shirt

When it’s scorching hot outside, one of the things we reach for is comfortable clothing. That’s what makes boyfriend jeans so perfect for hot summer days, providing you pick up a pair that are slouchy enough to prevent you from overheating (and of course, distressed denim with plenty of rips will help to keep the air circulating nicely!). Opt for a lighter wash and tapered ankle to make your outfit sunshine-ready. Team jeans with a loose-fitting t-shirt – check out some of the bright colours and fresh designs on these mens t shirts – and you’ll have a relaxed and on-trend look perfect for balmy summer evenings.

4. Orange

Perfect for summer, this hot, zingy shade will inject a shot of warmth into your wardrobe… even if it’s drizzly outside! Try this bold colour by wearing a statement coat, a cotton sun dress or even just citrus lipstick: it’s a shade that suits every skin tone and it feels like precisely the right kind of fashion statement for warmer weather.

5. Dark Florals

Imagine dark dresses with punchy, bright blooms and you’ve got a good idea of the kind of floral prints we’ll all be wearing this summer. From maxi dresses, shirt dresses and A-line shifts, all you need to do is keep your accessories neutral and allow the flowers do the talking. Stick to black sunglasses, nude shoes and a black handbag: it’s all about allowing the bold blossoms to pop.

6. The 90s

We’ve seen a resurgence of 70s and 80s pieces, so it naturally follows that this season is all about the 90s. Keep the greasy hair and grungy make-up firmly in the past, taking only the best bits into 2016: choker necklaces, leather jackets and slip dresses (as above) are a definite yes, and even sportswear, wide-legged trousers and maxi skirts have been given a modern twist on a nostalgic classic.
