Tanning beds are a great way to get a long- lasting glow on your skin, plus you don’t need to go through the hassle of applying it all yourself in a physically demanding way. Tanning beds are easy and convenient, though they do require a fair bit of prep beforehand.

Here, Beau Tanning share five things you should know before using a tanning bed:

1. Prep your Skin

Shave and exfoliate in the shower the day before your tanning session.
Exfoliating helps prepare your skin for the heat it’ll be experiencing during your session. Also, apply a non-oil-based light moisturizer right after you shower or bathe as this keep the skin from drying out during tanning.

2. SPF protection

Make sure to apply a lip balm with SPF protection, many don’t look after their lips during the tanning process and so can end up doing damage to them. On top of this remove your makeup, jewellery and avoid wearing heavy perfumes or essential oils.

3. Use Lotion

Apply lotion all over the body before and after, not only will it protect you, but it will also enhance the tan itself.

4. Check your Prescriptions

If you’re on medication, make sure you check that tanning beds won’t have any adverse side effects on your body. Some medication may cause complications, so consult your doctor if you can’t find out yourself.

5. Protect your Eyes

Before you step into the bed, always make sure you’re wearing protective eye gear. UV rays can be really harmful to the eyes, but don’t fret, as a lot of tanning places provide the equipment themselves.
